As a photographer, my business, like most photographers I know, literally ceased overnight when the lockdown was announced in the UK.
Only being able to get out once a day was doing my head in and there's only so much conversation I can have with my dog and parrot!
I needed to do something. To be creative and continue 'practice practice practice'ing
Within the first week of lockdown, I came up with the idea to document life in my town of Haverhill, Suffolk in images.
So I reached out to a few local groups on Facebook and asked people who would be interested in being photographed on their doorsteps to get in touch.
I had reluctant initial uptake on the offer, but once I started posting images from people I had photographed, the interest grew.
Unfortunately, as I was undertaking this as a personal project, and therefore not charging those I photographed and provided each household with a free image for taking part, I was unable to photograph everyone who showed interest.
it was really nice to be able to get out of the house and have actual conversations with people, from a safe distance of course!
I used my Nikon D750 and one of my favourite lenses, the Nikon 24mm-120mm F4 VR to maintain a safe social distance at all times.
I had the most wonderful conversations with total strangers. It was truly a rewarding experience and if finances permitted, I would have loved to have continued.
Book yourself a doorstep session
If you live in Haverhill, Suffolk or surrounding villages and would like to be photographed on your doorstep or back garden, then I'm able to offer this service for £49 which will include 3 high resolution edited images of your choice.
Thank you to all those Haverhill residents who took part in the project. It was genuinely lovely to meet each and every one of you.
